About Us

What We Do

We are a custom fabricating shop with the special aim of providing one-of-a-kind solutions to event projects. Our primary manufacturing output is our line of portable staging and custom suspension equipment. Our stage rental department has served as our research & development lab for years, allowing us to refine our system with hands-on field experience. Our in-house sewing shop allows us to create drapes, skirts, banners, backdrops, Spandex frame-supported shapes, and more. Our hardware fabrication is done with steel, aluminum, stainless steel, Plexiglas and wood.

We’ve created a 6” tall scale model of a circus tent to serve as a prop for a magazine cover, and we’ve built out a stage deck over all of the seats in a large city theater … no project is too big or too small! Our History

Custom Design Inc. began as a tent-repair business and expanded into stage roofs for outdoor events. Now, more than 27 years later, we have become specialists in creating customized staging equipment and accessories. We have earned the reputation of being able to provide the highest quality products and service, and most of our business comes from referrals and word-of-mouth. We take pride in our work and value the relationships we have built with our partners in the industry.

Key Personnel

We are a ‘lean, mean fabrication machine.’ Any one of us is available to help, but here are your main contacts:
Frank - President and Owner. Frank began Custom Design Inc. over 27 years ago and has been instrumental in creating a custom shop responsive to the demands that special events create. His expertise, gained from many years of experience in manufacturing and fabrication, has helped make Custom Design a valuable partner to the event industry in the Midwest.

John - Operations Manager. John started at Custom Design as summer help. His natural aptitude found a home here, and ever since the early years of Custom Design John has devoted the time and effort required to hone his skills. He has the technical and operational experience to help plan for those situations you might not even know could occur, and his knowledge can help make a dreamer’s plan a reality. John leads the field crew at Custom Design, which includes staff who have been with us for over 10 years.

Kathryn - Marketing Director. Kathryn has 14 years experience in the meetings and event industry, mostly as a meeting planner for the corporate and association markets. She has returned to Custom Design to head up our marketing efforts. The size and complexity of today’s events require follow-through, data control, and most of all the flow of information between event team members. Kathryn’s attention to detail and deadlines are an asset when planning a successful event.
